![]() It'd dumb IMO to strictly force tabletop game rules on a video game. They were forced by Wizards of the coast to strictly adhere to the DnD rules so that's why the game plays the way it plays. I'd rather play it in Single player. Those were my thoughts as well. But the games looks great, you now get two seperate weapon slots for fights, you can sink in hours on the creation of your character alone (story character weren't a thing as we played) and you can still be suprised if you dont be careful enough. ![]() i personally don't like the rest mechanic and the menu bar is. The fighting feels very monotone espacially at the start, video cutscenes looks nice but it is annoying if you miss a part of the dialogue just because someone walked a step too much. We had played Divinity 2 before and hoped that it played simliar. It is more action oriented but you can use the top down view and pause a lot to make strategies.Beer4MyselfHave bought Baldurs Gate 3 already to play with my friends. Xcom is probably the best next thing, forget the rpg, for the most part, and focus and the combat, RNG is a bit dumb early game but it is well worth it, if you need the rpg but like to try xcom, chimera squad is pretty good imo, you still dont control one character but you get a lot more personality from the team.īanner saga is really good but really punishing, is like the dark souls of turn base games, one mistake and you lose a lot, the story is quite good and the rpg is plentiful.ĭisgaea, any of them, is usually super fun with lots of customization on classes and comedy, maybe a bit too much comedy at times, but good overall.Īnd of course honorable mention to Dragon Age Origins, if there is one rpg anyone should play at least once is that one. Similar style you have pathfinder and pillars of eternity, but honestly they are not as good and usually are very convoluted having you read for hours before even creating a character. I’ve spent more time in just this Early Access slice now I have playing Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 I reckon. Last but not least: Sign up for the Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access and lose your life waiting for the main release. A game that’s not really the sum of its parts, but definitely the best Dragon Age game. They are very good stories though just for tying missions together.ĭragon Age: Origins. These are RPGs with good stories, but as games feel much more designed around how they play rather than the story. An indie game that lacks a lot of polish (the voice acting is distinctly amateur) it more than makes up for with the game play. For a game that took me 150 hours to complete, I reckon 50-60 of those hours were dealing with those design choices. Problem is you still got to do it even if it’s automated. However, the character building / class mechanics are almost impenetrable to the uninitiated (and quite a few initiated people too) and there are kingdom buildings / management mechanics that will chew up a lot of your time for no real gain, apart from avoiding game fail states. Lighter in tone than Pillars, although the characterisation of your companions isn’t as good as Original Sin 2, they are servicable enough. Pathfinder: Kingmaker & Pathfinder l: Wrath of the RighteousĪgain, RtoP although there is a turn based option. The closest experience to the original Baldur’s Gate series that’s been done in the last decade. They are real time with pause (RtoP) gameplay mechanics, and have a much more serious take to storytelling than Original Sin does, but they are very good, well written stories. ![]() It’s not got quite the mechanics complexity of D:OS2 or the same level of characterisation for your companions, but it’s still an excellent game well worth playing. What was it you liked about D:OS? The story or the turn based mechanics? Modern Isometric style RPGS Basically breakdown to 3 main choices:ĭivinity: Original Sin.
